Typography 2 Final Book
Graphic Design
This editorial design project challenged me to create a book that explored the relationship between typography and history. The assignment paired a classic typeface with a significant historical event that occurred around the same time as its release. For my project, I selected Univers and the launch of Sputnik, both of which emerged during a period defined by technological innovation, modernism, and optimism about the future.
The publication was designed to present these two subjects simultaneously while maintaining a clear distinction between them. Each topic was assigned its own typeface and aligned to a different vertical axis, creating a structured visual dialogue throughout the book. This approach allowed the content to coexist on the page while reinforcing the unique identity of each narrative.
Through the process of researching type history and the Space Race, I developed a deeper understanding of editorial design principles, information hierarchy, and typographic systems. The project challenged me to create a cohesive reading experience while balancing complex layouts, multiple content streams, and historical context.
This work strengthened my skills in book design, editorial layout, and typography, while demonstrating how design can connect seemingly separate subjects through thoughtful visual organization.
